CHICKALOON COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

- Announcements & Guest Speakers:
- Presentation on the Alaska’s Judicial Selection and Retention Process: Did not show
- A Declaration of Emergency for Glenn Hwy Damage (MP 63-78) from Governor Mike Dunleavy: Due to high water flow on the Matanuska. Will be requesting money for repairs between $2-4 million.
- George Rauscher: Election Presentation describing voting this year, will be voting with two different ballots. No rank choice voting in the borough, machine will be used for state ballots. Rank Choice Voting will be for all state and federal elections, rank candidates in order of preference.
- Tim Hale: S Knik River Community Council is working on creating a SPUD. There is very little in code outlining how a SPUD is created. The planning director came up with new procedures for creating a SPUD and it was brought before the assembly and was shut down. Tim is working on an agenda to outline procedures for how these are completed. Tim is term limited out next year and is looking to recruit someone to run for his seat. Tim wants to recruit someone that will be a good advocate for all the community councils in the borough. You can contact him if you are interested.
- Reports and Correspondence
- Treasurer’s Report: Janie Vessey, Also read her resignation letter letting us know that she is resigning from the council board as of today.
- Road Service Area (RSA) 31: Dave Vancleve, Fish Lake Rd was graded and everyone is of the opinion that it was a substandard job. Everyone should continue using the problem reporter as problems arise.
- Community Assistance Program (CAP): Kalee Bowen, no recent applications, we are working on updating the application form.
- Fire Dept. Report: Skip Stock, The fire department isdone with moving equipment. The engine and tender are at Drill Lake and an Engine is at KAC. Did have a vehicle fire about 1 week ago about 100 yards past Long Lake. Wesley was able to get there with the engine in under 10min. The Fire Department is always looking for volunteers and Skip mentioned they are in need of someone to be available as a backup for plowingthe road to Drill Lake during the winter.
- Crime Watch Report: Kalee Bowen Someone cut the internet cable to the Community Center. Looking at getting a battery back up for the camera system in case we lose power.
VIII. Public Comment: Cassie will be resigning from council, we need nominations next month for a special election in December to fill the position.
- Old Business:
- Community Center Water / Gas Update: Ballots are going out for the vote, we have had some complications with our list of registered voters in Chickaloon. We are working to fix the list and make sure everyone that is a resident of Chickaloon and is registered to vote receives a ballot. They will all be out by the end of the month. If you have not rec’d one and feel that you should have, please contact the board.
- Community Center Electrical Update: Work is complete, we have 1 electrical meter now.
- Community Center Maintenance and Repair Update: Marcia met with a couple companies for quotes for the floor. She did bring samples and the quote was between $11000-$13000 to have it completed. Discussed getting quotes from a handyman.
- New Business:
- Community council election committee – Volunteers needed: Marcia, Lil, Blanche
- Special election – Nomination is Cindy Hotz: 1 year term. Cindy was elected as Treasurer starting this day with 18 votes in favor.
- 2024-2025 Snow Plow Bid and Community Center Cleaning Bid awarded: 1 bid for each. $100 per cleaning $250 per plow of 4 inches or more. Both from Cross Roe’d services. 2x In favor: all, Opposed: 0
