CHICKALOON COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

- Announcements & Guest Speakers:
- Presentation on the Alaska’s Judicial Selection and Retention Process: rescheduled for October’s meeting
- The 16th Annual Mat-Su Emergency Preparedness Expo will be held at the Menard Sport’s Center in Wasilla on Saturday, September 28th from 10am-3pm. More info at: https://ready.matsugov.us/ or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/113195066786895
- Reports and Correspondence:
- Treasurer’s Report: Janie Vessey: Read by Kalee, Marcia double checked CD rates and they are good until next summer.
- Road Service Area (RSA) 31: Dave Vancleve: No updates
- Community Assistance Program (CAP): Kalee Bowen: FY25 submitted to borough. Fire Dept. Report: Skip Stock: Brush truck picked up, will be put into service next year for forestry fires. Fire Dept will be outfitting it over the winter.
- Crime Watch Report: Kalee Bowen, N/A
- Public Comment: Agenda and bids have to be posted at the PO publicly, discussed making the agenda easier to access.
- Old Business
- Water / Gas: Bids should be going out to the community for a vote by the end of the month.
- Electrical: Update on quotes: $750 Dukes Electric. Motion made by Dave to have electrical work completed. Barb 2nd All in favor, None opposed. 9.24.1
- New Business:
- Discussed a working budget for operations and building maintenance: Isolate operating costs from maintenance and improvements, and then establish a budget for maintenance and improvements. Set the budget for October since our fiscal year starts in Nov. Skip made a motion that we establish two/three budgets for operating, maintenance and capital improvements with a separate committee working with the treasurer. They are fiscal year budgets. Cindy seconded the motion. All in favor: All, Opposed: 0 9.24.2
- Nominations for the upcoming council election. There are 2 seats up for election this year: Austin spoke and nominated Kalee Bowen and Jeff Meyers.
- 2024-2025 snow plow bid forms and Community Center cleaning bid forms will be available at the meeting and Post Office after Sept. 11th. meeting. Bids will be due by and awarded on October 9th. meeting. Bids will be available at the PO.
- With news that Janie is resigning as of Oct 9th, we need to hold a special election. Nominations include Cindy Hotz. Election will be next month.
