    1. Review Minutes from Last Meeting (1/10/24): Read by Cassie
  • Approval of Minutes: One correction made by Angie. Approved, 1st by Hugh Keogh, 2nd by Lil Defriest
  • Announcements and Guest Speakers:
  • Tim Hale: Explained the borough assembly had a strategic planning meeting where they discussed the borough comp plan, community clean up issues, the junk car clean up program, and free dump days. Assembly approved 4-year terms for mayor and assembly members.  They are also working on the budget for this year, which will be approved by the second week of May. Meetings are open to the public, times and zoom access can be found on the borough website at https://matsugov.us/publicmeetings.
  • Sutton Community Council invited our council to a meeting on March 27th, where Donna Anthony of Chickaloon Traditional Village Council will attend, along with the Inter Tribal Working Group.  The goal of the meeting will be informational gathering so that the communities affected can have a better understanding of the aspirations of the tribe and how the DPS sees moving forward.  We do not have a time for this meeting, but will put a notification on the website as soon as we do.
    1. Reports and Correspondence:
  • Treasurer’s Report: Read by Kalee
  • Road Service Area (RSA 31): Dave VanCleve: Borough settled with contractors for overtime. No new info at this time about removing snow berms. There will be a mill rate increase for road service in general.
  • Community Assistance Program (CAP): We did receive this year’s CAP fund.  It will be reflected in next months treasurer’s report.
  • Fire Department: Wesley Daniels, they were awarded the Forestry Grant for $6100, which will go towards new pants, shirts, and chainsaws. This is a matching grant so the department is required to provide training hours.  Just a reminder to everyone, the borough will not respond to fires out here unless there is a threat to life.  The Chickaloon Fire Department is all that we have and they need as much support as possible.
  • Crime Watch: Owner to the abandoned side-by-side was found.  Nothing new to report otherwise.
    1. Public Comment:
  • No public comment
  • Old Business:
  • Website update: Thank you to Stephen Heckel for working so hard on the website for us. It is very important that everyone register on the website, as we will be phasing out sending emails (hopefully within 30-60 days).
  • Water Treatment: We are unable to get in touch with 907 Water Well Services, who installed the current partially finished system that we have.  We have been in contact with Better Water Alaska who came out and performed a free test and reported that the $70 water test from Matsu lab will not be comprehensive enough. They want to know exactly what is in the water to be able to determine the best system for us.  $350 for comprehensive test.  Pat made a motion to get water test completed, Hugh Keogh seconded the motion. All in favor. 3.24.1
  • AED parts are ready for pickup in Wasilla from AK Safety. Due to shipping issues from Amazon, we had to source the parts locally and were able to find them at a cheaper rate.
  • New Business:
  • No new business
